Templederry Wind Farm Ltd– Irelands First Community Owned Wind Farm
In September 2013 Templederry Wind Farm (4.6 MW installed capacity) in Tipperary became the first entirely community owned Wind Farm to connect to the National Grid, and began selling renewable electricity for the benefit of its members. The group is now producing approx 15GWh per annum of green electricity which is enough to power 3,500 houses or the equivalent of the local town of Nenagh.
Community Renewable Energy Supply (CRES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Templederry Wind Farm Ltd and is Irelands first Community Owned Licenced Supply Company. CRES as a community owned energy supply company is working to promote the concept of ‘energy citizens’ by supporting community participation in renewable energy projects and initiatives.
