Templederry Wind Farm

The Templederry Wind Farm is the first community owned wind farm in operation in Ireland. Templederry community is located on the northern edge of the Slieve Felim mountains. It is located between the main urban centers of Nenagh and Thurles in Co. Tipperary.

In November 2012 Templederry Wind Farm (4.6 MW installed capacity) became the first entirely community owned Wind Farm to connect to the National Grid, and began selling renewable electricity for the benefit of its members. The group is now producing approximately 15GWh per annum of green electricity which is enough to power 3,500 houses or the equivalent of the local town of Nenagh. This project is 100% owned by the local community with dividends from the project being re-invested to support other community activities.
